about us
The CALYPSO Sanctuary is a sanctuary/refuge for senior pets (10 years old or older) that will be rescued/adopted from shelters so that they may live out their days/months/years in a loving home environment. The CALYPSO Sanctuary idea was born in November of 2015 when our oldest daughter – Carrie Lynn, lost her courageous two year battle with cancer. She had just turned 31, and left behind her husband Brian, two children - Katie and Bryson, and five rescue pets – two dogs and three cats. In the last conversation with her father, she told him that one of her big regrets was that she would not be able to establish and run a senior pet sanctuary for rescue/shelter senior dogs and cats. Knowing her passion for rescuing animals, he assured her that they would set up the senior pet sanctuary in her honor and memory.
The CALYPSO (CArrie LYnn Pets Senior/Older) Sanctuary is now a reality. It has a 501(c)3 non-profit charity status…donations appreciated. 100% of all donations will go towards the care of the CALYPSO Sanctuary pets. Our Facebook page posts updates on our senior rescues frequently ... FB link at the end of this website.

PIPIFAX
Pipifax, a 13 1/2 year old beagle/shepherd mix, arrived at his new home here in Tiverton RI with the Calypso Sanctuary from a rescue in CT on January 1st, 2024! He has completely settled in to the house routine and is part of the family. He sleeps through the night on his couch in the dog room, ignores the kitties and they ignore him, eats everything offered to him, pretty much ignores Julie but she will let him know if he bugs her too much, loves going on walks/hikes with Dad & Mom, and interacts well with the grandkids. Overall - a very happy pup and a very relieved/pleased Mom & Dad! Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with leukemia in July 2024 and is undergoing treatment but so far, he is in remission. Hang in there Pipifax!

Teddy
Sweet “Teddy Bear”, age 10, came to us from North Carolina bonded with Buddy in November 2018. After spending the first part of his life chained to a tree in the back of a yard, Teddy adjusted well to the comfortable life. With a heart of gold and the patience of a saint, Teddy took on the role of the gentle, even-keeled “teddy bear” with lots of love to give. His playful spirit would shine through with his love of toys and mischievous antics. The pigeoned-toed hind legs and crossed front legs added to his allure and melted everyone’s hearts. Even though we lost Teddy shortly after he came to us from his advanced heartworm disease, he will always be remembered as a ‘founding member’ of Calypso.

Buddy
Buddy, age 9, survived the hurricane of the Carolinas before becoming a founding member of the Calypso family bonded with Teddy. A yellow-lab mix, Buddy is bursting with affection and eager to please. While there is little known of his background, the scars on his face and back indicate he has seen his fair share of hard times. But one look in those big brown eyes show that life has already been forgotten. Very young at heart, Buddy enjoyed spending his days running in the yard with his best friend Teddy and going on walks in the woods and beaches. Despite developing DM (Doggy ALS) in August 2022, Buddy continued to be active with his "wheels" for another 14 months before his DM disease progression caused him to cross the Rainbow Bridge in October 2023.

Molly
Miss Molly, age 10, has affectionately been dubbed the “hot mess express”. A quirky little girl, Molly can’t get enough snuggles and lap-naps. After her original owner passed away, Molly was shuffled from home to home before finally settling in at the Calypso Sanctuary as one of its founding members with Teddy & Buddy. Her kisses are endless, and her jealousy for affection is endearing. While she appears to prefer interactions with humans, she’s been known to sneak in a few snuggles with her brothers. Her eagerness to see you can brighten anyone’s day, and her warm lap snuggles are the perfect way to spend an evening. Sadly, Molly crossed the Rainbow Bridge in December 2022. She had a wonderful 4+ years with us.

Abby
Abby, age 8, is a loyal girl through and through. She quickly became attached to ‘Dad’ and can always be found by his side. Her favorite pastime with him, or a lucky visitor, is playing fetch in the backyard… and she doesn’t hesitate to be sassy and bark until someone throws the ball. If the ball squeaks, even better! Abby is a well-mannered, stoic gal who isn’t afraid to get a little vocal and let everyone know she’s there. She loves to get brushed every morning after going on daily walks. She remains close with her life-long/bonded friend Julie. Sadly, Abby crossed the Rainbow Bridge in November 2021 due to a ruptured internal tumor.

Julie
Julie, age 11, is the sweetest girl around. A calm presence in the house, she is gentle in everything she does—from kisses to taking treats out of your hand. She loves her walks with her fellow Calypso members, and is always sure to take her time exploring new sniffs. Julie came to us bonded with Abby in April 2019. Whenever company visits, she welcomes them by taking a chew toy out of the toy box and bringing it to show them. Julie has quickly claimed her spot as the sweetheart of the Calypso family. Sadly Julie crossed the Rainbow Bridge in June 2025 due to complications from internal tumors.
